Can I really paint it?
Yes, that is a deliberate feature. Gypsum takes emulsion paint readily, so you can roll it in the same colour as the wall and the fixture reads as an architectural recess rather than an applied object.
What paint should I use?
Standard wall emulsion in your room's colour works well, applied thinly so the crisp cast edges are not filled in. Keep paint away from the glass inserts and the bulb housing.
What are the glass inserts for?
They sit within the hollow gypsum body at the openings, diffusing and directing the light as it leaves top and bottom. Without them the plaster edges would be lit harshly.
What bulb does it use?
A G4 capsule bulb, replaceable. G4 is a compact two-pin base, which is the only sensible fitting inside a cast plaster body of this size.
Is gypsum fragile?
It is solid but brittle, like any plaster: it is fine in normal use but will chip if struck hard. At 3.96 lbs, mount it with fixings rated comfortably above that weight.
Where does the vertical shape work best?
On pillars, in stairwells and along hallways, where its 10 in height reads as a column of light. On a wide open wall it can look small unless used in a series.
How do I clean it?
Dust with a soft dry brush. Do not use water or damp cloths on unsealed gypsum, as it can absorb moisture and mark permanently.
