Why is this sconce so shallow?
At 5 cm deep it is barely thicker than a picture frame. That matters in a narrow hallway or beside a bed, where a fixture projecting 12 or 15 cm gets brushed against; this one stays out of the way while still reading as a substantial 40 cm column.
Does the marble look different lit and unlit?
Yes. Unlit it reads as a solid white stone panel with faint grey veining. Lit from behind, the thinner parts of the stone glow and the veining becomes far more pronounced, so the fixture effectively has two appearances.
Which bulb should I buy?
It takes a G9 bulb, sold separately. A warm white G9 around 2700-3000K generally suits natural marble best; cooler bulbs make white stone look grey and flatten the veining.
